Week 3 Case Study 1
There are three types of anemia. One is nutritional anemia, the other anemias caused by blood loss, and one that results from reduced red blood cell production. Anemia due to nutrition refers to an inability to absorb essential nutrients like iron, folate and vitamin B12. This can cause a decrease in hemoglobin over time. A blood loss condition that causes anemia is often caused by hemorhage and chronic conditions that eventually require transfusions.
Lastly, impaired red cell production can occur when bone marrow fails produce enough cells which leads towards fewer oxygen-carrying components within one’s body consequently. These are just a few of the more common classifications. However, there may be other subtypes depending on each individual case. The general framework can be used to help healthcare professionals pinpoint possible causes, which will ultimately lead to improved outcomes.
