This challenge would require me to use a range of data mining methods, including classification, clustering and association rules. To identify patterns in the dataset, clustering can be used. This allows similar observations to be placed together and analyzed further. By analyzing the characteristics of each observation, classification allows you to distinguish different kinds of observations. You can use this information to predict future outcomes. Associative rules are used to identify the relationships among variables which allow for better forecasting.
Regression analysis and time series models are two of the techniques that I wouldn’t recommend. They don’t work well for this kind of problem because there is no history. This is because these techniques are focused on linear relations, and they do not reflect complex data.
