This study included 180 students in psychology courses at universities in the United States. This study divided the students into two equal groups. One group received peer feedback, while one did not. Examples of attributes were gender (male/female), 18-25 year old, ethnicity, White, Black/African American Hispanic/Latino Asian, or Pacific Islander, and major (psychology/non-psychology). Participants were required to fill out surveys about their academic performance prior and following peer feedback.
Through this research design, the researchers hoped to gain a better understanding of how student performance changes when they are given constructive criticism from those around them – which could ultimately lead to improvements in teaching strategies used by instructors in order to ensure optimal learning outcomes for all students.
