This age group is particularly vulnerable, especially those aged 12-18 who are from minority families and/or have lower socioeconomic standing. The risk for this age group is increased by a variety of factors, including hormones that may cause hormonal imbalances and lifestyle choices which could lead to chronic diseases. They also lack access to healthcare.
Racial differences are another factor. Young people of certain ethnicities may experience more discrimination or insufficient resources, depending upon where they live. There may also be cultural stigmas attached to this issue that can prevent people from getting help even though it’s available. It is crucial that policy makers and health professionals both consider cultural stigmas when dealing with this issue. This will ensure everyone benefits equally.
