I discovered that stereotypes have the potential to be very harmful if they are not corrected. Stereotypes can be based on incorrect assumptions or misguided beliefs that cause negative attitudes to certain groups in society. Individuals can feel excluded or discriminated because of their race or skin colour, which could create further social inequalities.
Stereotyping can cause more than just discomfort. It can even lead to physical injury. Extreme cases can lead to false impressions that influence decisions and actions by those at the top, leading to unjust laws and policies that favor prejudice over fairness.
We can become more conscious of harmful norms and learn to respond appropriately when faced with them, rather than blindly following their messages. Education allows us to see past the exaggerated stereotypes and instead focus on our individual differences, so everyone is respected no matter who or what their origin is.
