Discussion on treatment of anxiety disorders week 6. NURS 6670 – Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner Role II for Adults and Older Adults – Walden University| NURS 6670 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Role II: Adults and Older Adults | Walden University
The main difference between these two conditions lies in their duration; while adjustment disorders tend to resolve themselves within 6 months, anxiety disorders typically last much longer—sometimes even indefinitely. Individuals with adjustment disorders can still function with little disruption in their day, while those with anxiety may experience significant difficulties with work/school performance and social interaction.
Finally, it’s important to note that although both conditions involve feelings of distress they differ when it comes to causation; adjustment disorders usually arise from external events such as death of a loved one or losing one’s job while anxiety typically stems from internalized fears about potential threats or perceived inadequacies.
It is important to understand the distinctions between anxiety and adjustment disorder in order for healthcare professionals to be able help patients with these disorders.
