EVM or Earned Value Management is a management technique used by many organizations to better measure the progress of their projects & ensure desired outcomes are achieved. Performance measurement baselines are two of the most common requirements. Variance analysis can also be very useful in assessing current situations.

For instance, by implementing performance measurement baselines one can easily determine if certain tasks are being executed as originally planned or not whereas variance analysis allows for necessary corrections to be made in order to get things back on track before it’s too late. Having worked on various projects in the past myself, I have seen firsthand how such techniques can drastically improve overall efficiency due to increased visibility & control over proceedings.

My current company uses such measures for almost all projects. They allow us to better evaluate where resources are going and thus maximize our returns. Ultimately though having an effective EVM strategy should enable entities greatly reduce risks while staying within budget & timeline constraints at all times regardless of any underlying circumstances.
