Collaboration is key to the success of curriculum development and implementation as a nurse educator working in a clinical environment. Collaboration allows for the sharing of expertise, perspectives and resources with other stakeholders. This results in a better education plan.
Potential stakeholders in my interprofessional collaborations include nurses educators, health professionals, students, and administrators. Every stakeholder contributes their own knowledge and experiences to help create a comprehensive approach to curriculum design.
Looking back at my experience thus far I can see that my collaboration with my preceptor has been successful. My lesson plans have been improved by collaboration. This has been possible through open communication, and the willingness to accept feedback. To ensure that my students get the best learning experience, however, I am committed to improving my collaboration skills.
In my lesson planning, I identified areas that need reinforcement. These include using active learning strategies and providing concise and precise objectives. I have also used technology to improve student engagement. It is possible to improve strategies by asking for feedback early in the planning process, and including a wider range of stakeholders.
The areas that need to be refined include aligning learning objectives with assessment and content, making sure the content is evidence-based and meeting the diverse learner needs.
There have been changes to the lesson plan, including the addition of more case-based examples to foster critical thinking and the adjustment to the pace to facilitate more detailed discussions. Also, there are more opportunities to create and encourage student collaboration and interaction.
Collaboration between different professionals is essential when implementing modifications to the lesson plan. Participating in the planning process will result in a better curriculum. Collaboration encourages participation by all stakeholders, and promotes buy in. It also allows for continuous evaluation and improvement, which leads to improved education outcomes.
