Based on what I observed in the video, as Masaya’s preceptor, it is important to model several leadership skills for fellow coworkers to promote his acceptance into the work-group or team. Firstly, effective communication is essential to ensure that everyone is aware of Masaya’s strengths, weaknesses, and contributions to the team. Secondly, active listening and empathy are crucial in understanding and addressing any concerns or issues that coworkers may have regarding Masaya’s integration into the team. Lastly, it is essential to promote a culture of inclusivity and respect, where everyone’s contributions are valued and recognized.
Incivility doesn’t seem to be an issue in this scenario. But it’s important to remember that incivility comes in many forms. These include verbal aggression and bullying as well as lateral violence. Lachman (2015) wrote the attached article. He highlights ethical problems associated with these disruptive behaviours and encourages organizations to create policies and procedures to prevent them from happening in the workplace.
One common thread among video, article and Civility Index articles is the importance to promote a culture in which everyone feels valued and included at work. Civility Index measures the behaviors that promote respect and inclusion in the workplace. These include listening attentively, encouraging appreciation, and refraining from gossip. While the article stresses the importance of cultivating a culture that values civility, the video highlights the benefits of inclusive and respectful workplace relationships.
The video may show that delegation played an important role in this issue. Masaya’s preceptor delegated tasks to him without providing adequate support or training, which resulted in a lack of confidence and frustration on Masaya’s part. Delegating effectively means setting clear expectations and providing support.
