DQ1: If you are a program manager for a department of public health and need to increase physical activity in your community, there are five steps that can be followed to start planning a strategy. In order to develop an intervention, it is essential that you use evidence-based programs and theories in designing and selecting interventions that will be effective and appropriate for your population. (Developing an Intervention 2023). It is important to involve all parties in planning, such as the community, local health agencies and the population targeted. This will ensure that the program addresses their needs and gets buy-in from them (Wheel manual, 2023).
DQ2 – In my practicum, I used public health education campaigns for health promotion and prevention. Community engagement activities were also employed. Collaboration with stakeholders was necessary to improve the access to medical services. The interventions are in line with the organization’s goals for promoting equity, improving access to health care, and decreasing health disparities. Further evidence-based practices to improve public healthcare outcomes include promoting active lifestyles through the modification of built environment, including creating biking and walking routes, improving nutrition accessibility and making healthy food choices via tax incentives and zoning. Telehealth and community health worker programs have also been proven to improve access to health care for those most in need (Minnesota Department of Health; n.d).
