Essential VIII: Professionalism & Professional Values is one of the AACN BSN Essentials I consider to be particularly relevant for my professional nursing practice. This important focuses on developing professional values and behaviours that will enable you to deliver high-quality nursing care.
Because they are the foundation of nursing practice, professionalism and professional values play a crucial role in guiding nurses as they interact with their patients, families and colleagues as well as their problem-solving and decision-making activities. The practice of professionalism requires that nurses demonstrate accountability, responsibility and ethical conduct in every aspect of their nursing work. Professionalism requires nurses to adhere to the professional standard and work hard to deliver the highest quality care.
The professional values refer to beliefs and attitudes that are used by nurses when interacting with other people. These values are respect, integrity and compassion. These values make nurses more likely to give patient-centered, sensitive care that takes into account the preferences and needs of patients as well as their families.
My professional and personal values are key to my future success in nursing. Trust is essential for me as a healthcare provider. I must establish trust relationships with patients and their families. To do this, I must demonstrate professionalism while also embodying the same values they value.
In my relationships with fellow colleagues and members of the healthcare staff, professionalism and professional ethics will also be essential. My role as a member of an inter-disciplinary team requires me to communicate clearly, work together, and display a high level of professionalism.
Essential VIII: Professionalism & Values is an integral part of the AACN BSN Essentials and is important for my future nursing career. This is what I consider essential in my future career as a nurse. It will help me to be able to deliver high-quality and patient-centered nursing care.
