Communication problems
Christian Wolff is the protagonist. He has autism and finds it hard to interact with other people. His difficulty in understanding facial expressions and social cues can lead to miscommunications. Christian has trouble with body language and eye contact, making it hard for others to comprehend his emotions or intentions. Christian’s struggle to communicate with clients, colleagues, and law enforcement officers is evident in the film.
Healthcare Application:
Communication breakdowns between healthcare providers and patients with special needs can occur due to a lack of understanding or accommodations for the patient’s needs. Some patients may struggle to understand social cues and may experience sensory difficulties that cause certain procedures to be difficult or even overwhelming. To ensure that patients receive effective communication and treatment, healthcare professionals must be sensitive to these special needs.
In the movie, Christian’s communication difficulties also highlight the importance of patience, empathy, and understanding when working with individuals with special needs. Healthcare providers need to be willing to take the time to listen and understand their patients’ unique needs and perspectives to provide the best care possible.
The film also highlights the importance of building trust with patients. Christian’s relationship with Dana Cummings is an example of how trust and empathy can lead to effective communication and positive outcomes. For patients and healthcare professionals to have open, safe communication and good relationships with each other, trust must be built.
