In the last few months I’ve been taking the DNP800: Scientific and Theoretical Underpinnings course. This has given me a better understanding of scientific and theoretical concepts which impact on advanced nursing practice. This course has given me the knowledge, skills and attitude that I need to be able to reach the course objectives.
The course’s primary goal is to incorporate scientific and theoretical concepts into advanced nursing practice. This goal was achieved by learning the scientific bases of nursing including psychosocial, pathophysiological and environmental sciences. These sciences can be integrated in nursing practice to improve patient outcomes. This knowledge has helped me become a confident and more skilled nurse practitioner. I’m now better prepared to give patient-centered care that is scientifically supported and evidence-based.
This course also aims to examine the processes and patterns of knowledge creation and current use of that knowledge within professional contexts. By critically reading the existing literature about various aspects of nursing practice, I was able to achieve this goal. How to find and assess research studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses and other methods to enhance nursing practice. In addition, I am proficient in the professional presentation of evidence-based research.
This course had a key component: the review of literature related to a topic that interests me. It was based upon a theoretical framework. This assignment helped me to develop skills in research, analysis, and synthesizing theoretical and scientific concepts. This assignment has helped me to recognize gaps and design research studies that address them. In addition, I am able to present my results in an organized and clear manner.
It has helped me develop the necessary attitudes for advanced nursing practice. My commitment to quality patient care and evidence-based practice has been reinforced by my lifelong learning. Working with healthcare professionals has taught me how to collaborate, recognising the importance of their knowledge and contribution to patient care. Additionally, I have developed a commitment to cultural competence, recognizing the importance of respecting patients’ cultural backgrounds and beliefs in the provision of healthcare.
I can conclude that this course helped me develop a variety of skills and attitudes which have allowed me to achieve the course objectives. It has taught me how to combine scientific and theoretical ideas into advanced nursing practice. How to use and evaluate research evidence and how you can create a systematic review of literature that is based upon a theoretical framework. In order to be a competent nurse, my attitudes include a dedication to evidence-based nursing, collaboration, lifelong learning and cultural competence. These skills and attitudes are what I believe will allow me to deliver high-quality patient-centered nursing care as well as meaningful contributions to my profession.
