Presentation and essay on community teaching plans
A group of fifth-graders had me teach them about nutrition. In my lesson I focused on what different food groups can do for overall wellness and health. Visuals such as charts and colorful posters helped me to illustrate the concept better.
Students were engaged the whole lesson. They seemed eager to learn more about nutrition and how it can help them achieve their goals. Some students like problem-solving, others enjoy cooking and tasting new foods.
This reinforced my belief that teaching needs to be tailored according to each learner’s interests and strengths in order for them to truly understand the material being taught. It is evident that active learning yields greater results when students are given the opportunity to engage in class activities than lecturing.
