Assessing the neuronal system
It is crucial to assess a child in their pediatric age range. Techniques helpful for this assessment include using play and storytelling activities to establish rapport with the child and get an understanding of their situation; communicating questions and explanations in developmentally appropriate language; monitoring body language, facial expressions, and behavior throughout the interview process; checking-in with family members to ensure they feel comfortable participating in the patient’s care plan; inviting siblings into conversations if necessary; and seeking feedback at regular intervals to facilitate discussion on goals. These techniques can help foster an open dialogue between provider and patient while also providing more comprehensive insight into the individual’s medical history, current condition, potential risks/concerns, anticipatory guidance needs.
