Interviews and interdisciplinarity in the identification of issues
It is crucial to achieve the best possible patient-system outcomes through interdisciplinarity. Collaboration involves collaboration among healthcare professionals, from doctors to nurses to therapists. In order to enhance care quality, efficiency patient care processes, better satisfaction among providers, improve clinical outcomes for patients, and optimize resource usage throughout an organization, interdisciplinary collaboration (Hollenbeck, et al. 2018) is the goal. Additionally, interdisciplinary collaboration may be useful in addressing organizational issues like cost efficiency or performance improvement. Additionally, an interdisciplinary approach can be used to incorporate evidence-based practice into an organization’s protocols and procedures in order to ensure that all decisions being made are informed by research on best practices (Lau et al., 2017).
Interview with the CEO of a hospital in the community provided an example of how multidisciplinary collaboration can be used to solve specific problems within health care organizations. Insufficient staffing in certain departments had led to increasing wait times at the emergency department. This was a problem that has been highlighted by the CEO. Through interviews, the CEO discovered that some steps were taken before or concurrently with patient arrival. These delays then lead to delayed discharge which further exacerbates wait time problems faced by ER staff.
This issue can be effectively addressed using evidence-based practices. There are many approaches to this problem depending on the severity of the problem. Therefore, collaborative discussions across disciplines should occur.
