There are many factors that support the organizational structure, such as formal and informal leadership and the power and distribution in the organization. For example, formal leaders have an office or position in an organization. They are responsible for setting goals and allocating resources. However, informal leaders influence the culture and values of their organizations. These leaders may not be able to hold any official titles but they have gained respect for their skills and ability to positively influence others in order that common goals are achieved.
The importance of informal leadership cannot be underestimated – it has been found that having strong informal leaders can be beneficial when it comes to fostering innovation, creativity, trust among team members as well as encouraging collaboration amongst colleagues. The informal leadership platform allows employees to gain skills that are not related to their current job. This can often lead to increased engagement. But, it’s also possible to misuse this form of leadership.
Two best practices from literature that could benefit my current organization include encouraging frequent feedback loops with employees on how their individual contributions contribute towards overall success (Morrison & Phelps 2013), as well as establishing meaningful incentives for meeting specific performance targets (Gomez-Mejia et al 2010). With employee feedback loops managers can gain valuable insight into what motivates/demotivates employees making them feel valued at work thus improving morale while creating meaningful incentives will encourage staff members to go beyond just doing what is required in order achieve desired results set forth helping reach its ultimate goals faster efficiently saving time costs incurred along way.
