1. (Rourke, et. al. 2017) The study looked at the effects of nursing staffing levels on patient safety outcomes within a local hospital’s nursing department. An retrospective chart review identified 29 clinical indicators that were relevant to the safety and quality care of patients. These included timely tracheal and central line intubation times, pressure ulcer rates, and time for central line insertion. An associational study found that patient safety was significantly improved when there is more nurse staffing. This relationship was strongest for complicated processes like timely tracheal inflation, central line insertion time and pressure ulcer rates. The results indicate that increasing nurses’ staffing in hospitals may help improve patient safety.
2. (Debbage, et al. (2013) This quasi-experimental trial evaluated the potential use of telehealth to increase access to specialist care among rural veterans suffering from chronic conditions. These individuals were not able to travel long distances because of their illness or lifestyle. Two-phase intervention was implemented by the researchers. It included training sessions and individual visits by multidisciplinary teams during the initial phase. Patients were then monitored for one year and provided support through video conference and phone calls. The results showed statistically significant improvements in accessibility compared to pre-intervention and post-intervention scores.
