According to me, the reason the patient displayed the conditions described was due to her genetic predisposition. Genetic mutations can cause many diseases, such as diabetes and cancer. Research suggests there may be an underlying genetic defect that has led to the symptoms.

Immunosuppression involves suppressing the immune system’s response to foreign substances by reducing its ability to fight off invading bacteria or viruses. It can happen naturally as we age, or it may be caused by medications or illnesses. Immunosuppression is linked to increased infection risk and vulnerability for developing autoimmune disease.

Poor diet and lifestyle factors, such as lack of exercise, smoking, poor nutrition, and exposure to toxic/pollutants, can all lead to worsening current health conditions. For example, being overweight increases one’s risk of developing type II diabetes while smoking increases one’s risk of lung cancer and other respiratory ailments.

Management of chronic illness requires medical intervention. Treatments often target symptom severity, while trying to prevent further disease progression. Supportive therapy such as counseling can help with depression, especially when it is caused by stress-related complications, either directly linked to the illness or potential aggravating factors (e.g. financial problems).
