Financial management & healthcare organization
The topic and case I have chosen is “Hospital Consolidations: Their Impact on Financial Management”. In this case, I will discuss the financial problems that can be faced in consolidating several hospitals into one. This includes merging billing and pricing systems to adjust to different cost of care. We also need to consider how we balance cash flow and administrative costs.
Financial management is the key challenge. The goal of a comprehensive strategy must be developed that ensures financial stability in all departments without jeopardizing patient experience or services. Budgeting must be considered during consolidation to ensure that the necessary staff can be trained and hired. Staff training on new payment methods or protocols must also be planned. It is also difficult to manage cash flow due the multiple considerations of both short-term liquid assets that are required to finance daily operations as well as long term investments with sufficient returns for sustainability and future growth.
This is especially relevant to the healthcare industry as mergers/acquisitions are increasing lately, allowing providers to have complete control over their respective markets moving forward. Otherwise, they will fall behind in rapidly changing times.
