What is being studied? Who is the population and what are some of the findings?

I decided to look into the Cardiovascular Health Study. The study was conducted by the National Institutes of Health’s Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in order to gain better understanding of risk factors for coronary heart disease, stroke and other illnesses that are related to cardiovascular health among elderly US citizens. It included data on over 5,000 people aged 65 or older who were living independently which included information about physical characteristics such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels and body measurements; socio-demographic characteristics such as educational level and family income; lifestyle behaviors like smoking habits; health care access including use of prescription drugs; subclinical markers like electrocardiograms and carotid ultrasounds; clinical events like strokes or hospitalizations for angina pectoris; total cholesterol profile results from lipid tests taken in 1989–1990 and laboratory measures from various follow-up tests taken throughout the duration of the study.

Some important findings include an increase risk in developing hypertension with age along with its subsequent effects due long term exposure increased volumn systemic vascular load this then further correlates they found between obesity associated cardiac disorders particular population being surveyed also saw high prevalence rhumatoid arthritis across genders despite numbers being slightly higher male counterparts suggesting need greater attention given treatments addressing condition & address underlying issues may present themselves otherwise could show late symptoms requiring more drastic interventions than ever before recently medications become available help contain inflammation itself (although not cure).
