The Quality Tactics as well as the Logistics and Supply Chain Functions
Quality control in logistics and supply chain management is essential to ensure that customers receive goods and services in an efficient and timely manner. You can use many tools internally or externally to guarantee quality in logistics and supply chain operations.
To improve efficiency and identify waste within an organization, tools like Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma (and Kaizen) can be utilized. TQM is about involving all employees in improving quality. Six Sigma and Kaizen are data-driven and focus on identifying and eliminating defects. This tool can be used for setting customer expectations, and to design processes that are high quality.
Supplier rating and supplier evaluation tools can be utilized to verify vendors’ compliance with quality standards. They assess the vendors’ performance based upon factors like delivery times, quality, service, and compliance to agreements. These tools allow organizations to identify vendors who consistently exceed or meet quality standards and enable them to work with them.
External vendors can be assured quality through third-party certifications or audits. These include ISO 9001 quality management system certifications and food safety audits conducted by American Institute of Baking. This certification and audit ensures that vendors adhere to industry standards in quality and safety.
