Laurie’s Needs Assessment is what? Remember to think about why Laurie wants to start a group of psychotherapy counselors.
Laurie hopes to create a counseling and psychotherapy group for sexually abused adolescents. A psychotherapy counseling group is meant to be a supplement or replacement for individual treatment. A Needs Assessment will determine if there are grounds for the formation of a psychotherapy counselling group. Data gathered through the Needs Assessment will show mental health officials the need to seek alternative treatments.
What are the stakeholders and interested parties for the Needs Assessment? Consider all stakeholders in the issue.
Laurie believes that the demographic of interest is a group of teenage girls aged between 9 and 17 years old who might be able to benefit from sessions of therapy to deal with trauma related to sexual abuse. Affected adolescents will be part of this initiative. The second stakeholder is the families of these teens. Families of these teenagers are the second stakeholder. They will provide valuable advice regarding the counseling group and the psychotherapy. The community also has a key role in creating and maintaining social networks that deal with sexual assault and other forms of abuse. Laurie can determine which therapeutic approach is most beneficial for her patients by including all stakeholders in the needs assessment.
Calculate the median age of members in each suggested group for psychotherapy.
There will be 14 people in the psychotherapy group, ranging from 9 to 17. Average age of the group is 12.9 or 13 years.
What percentage of teens expressed interest in the psychotherapy program?
Eightteen teens from the 14 selected teens indicated an interest in joining the therapy group.
8/14 ×100%= 57%
Laurie’s suggestion is valid as the proportion of teens who expressed an interest in the therapy group was more than 50 percent. This percentage is the required psychotherapy group requirements.
Based on data collected, how did adolescents rate potential treatment options? What three themes did adolescents choose as their favorite?
A majority of the students picked “healing sexual assault/abuse” to be the subject they wanted to talk about in the group. Fourteens chose this option as the topic they wanted to talk about, while five teens selected sexual abuse and assault. Fourteens requested that the group address sexual harassment in their third option. Last, the choice was between “sexual abuse/abuse recovery” or “coping skills”. Teens often choose self-esteem as the second topic in therapy groups. Here is a summary of three top themes:
Recovering from Sexual Abuse/Assault Is Number One
No. 2 Self Esteem
No. No.
One component of both the topics is sexual assault. Most people need to learn how to cope with traumas such as abuse or sexual assault.
