Through their ability to build relationships with each other, the media have had an important impact on Americans’ lives. The media can be defined as the means of communicating information between people. Although there are many media types that have helped to create inter-American relationships, the media known as social media has been the most powerful and influential. It has changed the behavior of Americans by changing their attitudes. Social media is a kind of media defined by the use of internet platforms such as websites and social applications where users can produce and share information with others (Roberts & David, 2019). Since social media information can be accessed by multiple people within a brief time span, it is considered shared media. Social media is a powerful tool that has changed the way Americans relate.
The use of social media to communicate has greatly improved communication. It provides instantaneous responses, which enhances human connections and relationships. The nineteenth-century saw communication as an important aspect of American society in transition. Communication was a key area of American society that underwent change. It included speech, writing (such as letters or newspapers) and art. Then came more sophisticated communication methods such as telephones and telegraphs. They were still useful but the 20th century witnessed the rise of social media platforms such as email and widespread use of websites to communicate (Shanahan, et al. 2019, 2019). This aspect was made even better by the introduction of social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook at the close of the 20th Century. Social media allows users instant feedback which enhances communication and fosters better interpersonal relationships. Because social media is used as a means of quickly disseminating information to many people it gives users the opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge. (Shanahan, et al. 2019, Shanahan et. al. Although social media allows for better communication and more opportunities to make beneficial connections, it has greatly influenced physical engagement. Compared to the nineteenth century, before the advent of social media, Americans develop less physical connections based on commitment today (Shearer & Grieco, 2020). The positive and the negative impacts of social media on American relationships are evident.
Platforms increase communication efficiency and facilitate connections by allowing for quick and efficient communication. Americans tend to be less physically engaged and have fewer relationships because they rely on digital platforms.
